Obituary

Ada D. (Anderson) Odom, daughter of Albert and Martha (Hermanson) Anderson, was born July 20, 1910 at Grandfield, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in Lake Preston and graduated from Lake Preston High School. She was united in marriage to Gilford Odom at DeSmet, South Dakota on February 2, 1929 and they lived in Waukomis, Oklahoma for two years. They returned to Lake Preston and farmed before moving to Osceola, South Dakota in 1940 where they continued to farm. In 1944 they moved into Osceola where she worked as a grocery store clerk, mail carrier and as a cook at the Osceola and Bancroft Schools. Gilford died in 1983 and she continued to live in Osceola until moving to Bruce, South Dakota in July of 2001 to make her home with Beverly. She entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in April of 2002 and died there on Saturday, December 13, 2003 at the age of 93 years, 4 months and 23 days. She was a member of the Osceola and Carpenter Methodist Churches where she served as pianist for many years. She was a past member of the Foster Homemakers Extension Club and the Iroquois Senior Citizens. Ada enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and crafts. Grateful for having shared her life are three sons, Jack Odom and his wife Maxine of Dennison, TX, Dale Odom and his wife Mary of Foreman, AR and Leland Odom and his wife Sharon of Clare, IA; one daughter, Beverly Anderson and her husband Ralph of Lake Preston, SD; 23 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Ford of Madison, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Ada was preceded in death by her husband Gilford; her parents, one grandchild; one great grandchild; two sons-in-law; three brothers, Alvin, Vincent and Glen; and one sister, Mabel.
