Allen Clair Johnson, 89, of Sioux Falls, SD was welcomed to his heavenly home on Friday, April 26th, 2024 with his family by his side.

Al was born April 5, 1935 in Badger, SD to Alfred and Marie "Toots" Johnson, the second of five children. He attended school at both Badger and Lake Norden, and graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1954.  It was there, at age 16, that he met the love of his life, Janet Hoglund. They were married April 6, 1957 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lake Norden, SD.

He entered the Army in 1958, and his military service took him from Georgia to Alaska, where Janet faithfully followed. Soon after his discharge, they welcomed two precious children, Jeff and Leah, and their family was complete.

After working for the railroad and at other various jobs, he completed business college, then moved his family to Fairmont, MN where he served multiple judges in Minnesota's 5th Judicial District as a Court Reporter for 25 years. During that time, he was a member of the Bethel Evangelical Free Church and served in various areas. His faith was important to him, and he made sure his family arrived early to church each and every week. After his retirement, he and Janet enjoyed splitting their time between their homes in Chandler, AZ and Lake Norden, SD before settling in Sioux Falls, SD in 2012.

Al loved being around people, and he always had a joke or a story to tell that brought both joy and laughter.  He liked playing cards, going out to eat,  and creating special pieces in his woodworking shop. He enjoyed spending time outdoors boating, camping with friends and family, gardening, and keeping his cars and lawn in pristine condition. He loved his family well and, together with Janet, cherished spending time with his children, his three grandchildren, and later in life, his three great-grandchildren.

Left to celebrate his life and share memories are his beloved wife of 67 years, Janet, of Sioux Falls, SD; his son Jeff (Sherri) Johnson of Fairmont, MN; his daughter Leah (Gary) Sundblad of Albert City, IA; his treasured grandchildren Brady (Emily) of Marathon, IA; Brittany of Sioux Falls, SD; and Suzanne (Trevor) of Sioux Falls, SD; his three great-grandchildren Addaley Harper, Rory Duane, and Shayley Clair of Marathon, IA; and one sister, Dianne (Buzz) Stephenson of Sioux Falls, SD.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lake Norden, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, and will be live-streamed.
