Alma Lillian Hedblad went to be with her Lord on December 18, 2012. She died at her residence in Brownstown Twp., Mi. Alma Lillian was born on September 20, 1927, in Estelline, South Dakota. She is the daughter of Gilbert and Signe Sween. Alma was blessed with seven brothers and sisters: Amanda, Carl, Gillard, Annie, Mick, Elsie and Dennis. Alma grew up in the Estelline area and attended school there. She has fond memories of growing up on the farm in a loving family that believed in God and trusted in Jesus as their Savior. Alma married Delbert Hedblad on January 4, 1948 at the Lutheran Church in Estelline. Alma and Delbert farmed for a few years, and then decided to move to Detroit, where Delbert worked for Detroit Diesel for 32 years. Alma and Delbert were blessed with nine children: Ty (deceased), Darryl (Diane), Delwyn (Nancy), Dale (Colleen), Dan (Teresa), Darla, Ted, Alan (Laura), and Edna (Charles) Shy. They were blessed with eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Alma loved to sing, and was a lifelong member of her church choir. She loved to bake and sew and she was an excellent cook. Alma was gentle and kind and always looked for the good in people. Alma was generous, caring and compassionate. Alma was a faithful Christian and servant of our Lord Jesus. Alma and Delbert never invested much in stocks and bonds. They invested their time, love and what little money they had in their children. Their family and their faith in God is their living legacy. The family will welcome visitors to a memorial viewing on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00p.m. at the Giese Chapel in Lake Norden. The funeral will be held the following day, Thursday, December 27, at 11:00 a.m., at the Lake Norden Covenant Church, with Reverend Dale Hedblad, Lillian's son, presiding. A luncheon will follow the interment at Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested in Alma's name to go to Lake Norden Evangelical Covenant Church.
