Balo, son of Elder and Carolina (Harris) Balo, was born June 9, 1945, at Lakehurst, New Jersey while his father was serving in the U.S. Navy. When he was two years old his family returned to the farm near White, South Dakota. He grew up and received his education there and worked for farmers in the White area. Art worked at various jobs and was united in marriage to Joan Bullis in April of 1970. He was employed at Homestake Gold Mine and worked for ranchers in the Black Hills area. Art returned to White and worked various jobs until becoming disabled with back problems. He was united in marriage to Donna Rook on June 5, 1982, in White. After recovering from his back problems he was a salesman for flea markets for the past 17 years and traveled from South Dakota to Oklahoma. Art died on Friday, June 13, 2008 at Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 63 years. He loved to fish and hunt and was very active in AA, being very proud of having achieved 33 years of sobriety. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Donna of Estelline; two daughters, Wanda Gibson and her husband Brian of Mitchell, SD, Carol Kosbab and her husband Troy of Sioux Falls; two step-daughters, Sharon Bircholtz of Sioux Falls, Teri Bogstad and her husband Ronald of Pipestone, MN; two step-sons, Duane Runge and his wife Brenda of White, Wade Runge and his wife Becky of Watertown, SD; 19 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Balo and his wife Janet of Alta, IA, Oscar Balo and his wife Sandy of White, Ben Balo and his wife Faith of Balsam Lake, WI; four sisters, Carol Wellman and her husband Bill and Esther Trygstad and her husband Jim all of Colman, SD, Reba Crawford and her husband Richard of Larchwood, IA, Cindy Sipple and her husband Rex of Groton, SD; his mother-in-law, Berdyna Rook of Estelline; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Rodney Rook.
