Obituary

Audrey Elaine Knuth was born on November 6, 1928, in Deuel County, SD, the daughter of Evans and Charlotte (Erickson) Knuth.  After a long and courageous battle with cancer she died at her home in Brookings on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, surrounded by her family.

Audrey grew up in the Estelline area, graduating from Estelline High School in 1946.  In 1947, she was employed at the Farmers State Bank in Estelline where she worked until 1959.  On May 20th, 1951 she married John Tuin.  He was listed as missing in action in the Korean War in October of 1952 and was presumed dead in February of 1954.  She was united in marriage to Irwin J. Linneman on April 21, 1957 in Estelline. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2007. Irwin passed away in April, 2008.

Audrey stayed home to raise her family and returned to work in 1972 at the Estelline High School as business manager and secretary.  In 1974 she resumed her career at the Farmers State Bank until her retirement in 1994. She was an active member of the St. Francis deSales Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Estelline.  She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Together with her husband Irwin, they grew, canned, and froze produce which they enjoyed sharing with family and friends.  Audrey was especially famous for her dill pickles, applesauce and frozen corn. She was an exceptional baker and cook and loved hosting  meals for family and friends, as these times were most precious to her. Audrey enjoyed attending Estelline High School athletic events. She especially loved attending events of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She and Irwin were honored by the Estelline Alumni Association as Grand Marshalls for the 2006 Homecoming parade.  She also enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing bingo, and watching the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings.

Audrey is survived by her children Curt (Denise) Linneman of Waukee, IA; Kathy (David) Engebretson of New Albany, IN; Maureen Papka and her fiancé John Radtke of Brookings, SD; Myron (LaVonne) Linneman of Sioux Falls, SD; Brian (Vicky) Linneman of Volga, SD;  Nancy (Mark) Hausman of Brookings, SD; twelve grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
