Barbara E. Wilen, 78, of Lake Norden, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at her home in Lake Norden. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church near Lake Norden. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday evening at the Church. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Barbara Elaine Koski was born on April 12, 1937, in Lead, SD, the daughter of Arvo and Maria (Jernberg) Koski. She grew up on a ranch near Highmore, SD and graduated from Highmore High School. She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis, MN, as an IBM operator. She was united in marriage to Lance Wilen on November 23, 1958, in Spearfish, SD. The couple made their home in Sturgis. Lance was a trucker, and Barbara kept the home and raised their children. The couple lived in various states including Colorado, Montana, Utah, Washington and North Dakota, where Lance continued trucking and Barbara would often travel with him, sometimes running a pilot car. The couple retired in Lake Norden, SD.
She enjoyed sewing and doing bookwork. In her younger years, she loved to go hiking and camping. She was baptized, confirmed and a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Lance Wilen, of Lake Norden, SD; her children, Lex (Melody) Wilen, of Hayti, SD, Lorena (Robert) Mitchell, of Gillette, WY, Mark (Teresa) Wilen, of Vienna, SD, Nancy (Todd) Rush, of Rozet, WY and Andrew (Ashley) Wilen, of Sioux Falls, SD; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Tom (Anna Mae) Koski, of Sundance, WY, Donald (Gaye) Koski, of Sheridan, WY, Norma (Herschell) Hoffman, of Belle Fourche, SD, Anna (Steve) Kenoyer, of Rapid City, SD, Clarence (Vicki) Koski, of Whitewood, SD and a host of relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three children, Randy, Ann and Terrance; one grandson, Marcus Wilen and one sister, Darlene.
