Bernadette "Grandma Bernie" L. (Holzemer) Linneman, daughter of Nicholas C. and Mary (Spartz) Holzemer, was born October 10, 1923, at Kranzburg, South Dakota. She received her elementary education at Holy Rosary School in Kranzburg and then graduated from Goodwin High School. Bernadette received her teachers certificate from Notre Dame College in Mitchell, South Dakota. She then taught in rural schools in Hamlin and Deuel Counties prior to her marriage to John F. Linneman on November 6, 1946, in Kranzburg. They farmed near Dempster, South Dakota until his death on March 8, 1973. She then moved to Brookings and was employed at 3M for about three years. Bernadette continued to live in Brookings until moving to Benet Place in Watertown in 1998. She died surrounded by her family at her daughter Linda's residence in Clear Lake on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at the age of 85 years.
She had a deep faith and was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, where she was active in the altar society, taught CCD and sang in the choir. While in Brookings she volunteered time with special needs children and the elderly. After moving to Watertown, she served as an Eucharistic Minister and lector at Benet Place. Bernadette loved playing bridge, watching every Twins and Vikings game, Trivial Pursuit, golf and reading, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
