Hope Cemetery Watertown, SD Visitation 4PM to 7PM Friday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood. Bernard C. Venne, son of William and Ella (Brophy) Venne, was born April 13, 1907 at Hazel, South Dakota. He lived in Hamlin County until the age of 9 years when he moved with his family to Emmons County, North Dakota. He graduated from high school there and then returned to Hamlin County, South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Myra M. Kruse on February 6, 1936 in Madison, South Dakota and three sons were born while they farmed in this area. In 1950 they moved to northern Minnesota where Bernard was employed as an iron ore miner for 25 years. After retirement he worked part time for a local contractor. In 1990 Bernard and Myra returned home to South Dakota and lived in Watertown. Myra died in April of 1996, shortly after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Bernard lived in the Castlewood Assisted Living Center until entering the Estelline Nursing and Care Center on August 30, 2005. He died there on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the age of 98 years, 5 months and 4 days. Grateful for having shared his life are three sons, Robert Venne and his wife Ethel of Minneapolis, MN, Leroy Venne and his wife Kathleen of Fridley, MN and Roger Venne and his wife Coni of Aurora, CO; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister Eunice LaBarron of Great Falls, MT; a sister-in-law Berniece Pratt and her husband Roy of Watertown, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife Myra, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Odele.
