Berniece C. (Lindus) Heyl Peterson, daughter of Frank and Anna Lindus, was born August 13, 1916 in Baldwin, Wisconsin. She spent her early years and received her education in rural school in Lincoln County, Minnesota. Berniece was united in marriage to Orville Heyl on October 1, 1939 in Arco, Minnesota. They lived in Hendricks, Minnesota until moving to Hayti, South Dakota in 1968 where they owned and operated the City Liquor Store. Orville died on May 19, 1973 and she was united in marriage to Edward "Pete" Peterson on April 12, 1975 in Clark, South Dakota. After their marriage they lived in Estelline and after Pete's death on February 21, 1993 Berniece continued to make Estelline her home. She died on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 97 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter Anitra Holter and her husband Ron of Estelline; one son Ardell Heyl and his wife Myrna of Hill City, SD; seven grandsons; 8 great grandchildren; three great great grandsons; one sister Violet Reinertson and her friend Harry Hanson of Hendricks, MN; one brother Harley Lindus and his wife Lois of Grantsburg, WI; and a host of other relatives and friends. Berniece was preceded in death by her two husbands and her parents. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Visitation will be from 4Pm to 7PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
