Beth Lantgen Estelline, South Dakota Funeral Mass 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 29, 2005 St. Francis deSales Catholic Church Estelline, South Dakota Msgr. Steve Barnett, Officiating Scripture Service 7:00 PM, Friday, January 28, 2005 St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Visitation 2PM to 5PM Friday at Geise Funeral Home and prior to both Services at the church. Beth Lantgen, age 68, widow of Harold Lantgen died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at her home in Estelline after a battle with cancer. Beth (Byrum) Lantgen, daughter of Howard and Grace (Tennyson) Byrum, was born December 21, 1936 at Deadwood, South Dakota She attended grade school at Terraville, South Dakota and high school in Lead, graduating in 1954. She was united in marriage to Harold Lantgen on December 28, 1954. They moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota where she worked as a secretary for the YMCA. In the spring of 1955 the couple started farming near Clear Lake, South Dakota. They purchased their farm north of Estelline in 1959 which they made their life and home until 1992 when they retired and moved into Estelline. Beth was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Her passion for photography gave her great pleasure. She won many awards and ribbons in magazines, farm shows and local and national photo contests. She was recognized nationally in Successful Farming as a woman baby calf buyer to incorporate the raising of beef cattle into the family farm business. She was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, canning and all the aspects of the outdoors. She also enjoyed spending time with all 17 of her grandchildren who became the subjects of her photography. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Kenneth Lantgen and his wife Lanis of Estelline and Randy Lantgen and his special friend Mikell Tronstad of Piedmont, SD; one daughter, Kathi Lantgen and her special friend Randy Ross of Brookings; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Byrum and his wife Alice of Phoenix, AZ and Don Byrum and his wife Judy of Sturgis, SD; one sister, Maxine Rainer and her husband Jim of Phoenix; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on November 22, 2002, her daughter Jeannie on April 27, 1985, her grandson Christopher and her parents.
