Obituary

Beverly D. (Odom) Anderson, daughter of Gilford and Ada (Anderson) Odom, was born July 16, 1931 at Arlington, South Dakota. She lived at rural Lake Preston and Osceola, South Dakota and received her education at Bancroft and graduated from Lake Preston High School in 1949. Bev was united in marriage to Carroll R. Anderson on August 21, 1949 in Arlington. After their marriage they farmed near Bruce until Carroll's death on December 7, 1977. She continued to live on the farm and was married to LeRoy Jurgens on October 30, 1993 in Bruce, South Dakota. After LeRoy's death on December 3, 2000 she married Ralph Anderson on June 30, 2002. They lived in Lake Preston where they participated in the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant. After Ralph's death on October 30, 2007 she returned to the farm near Bruce. Bev died on Monday, March 12, 2012 in Sioux Falls at the age of 80 years. She was an active member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce where she participated in WMF and taught Sunday School for 20 years. She was also a member of the Preston Township Community Club and the Desirable Developmental Training Extension Club. Bev received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Volunteer Service Bank in 2000 and was also a foster parent for 26 children over the years. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jerry Anderson and his wife Nancy of Volga, SD, Judy McFarland of Bartonville, IL, Roland and Alan Anderson of Bruce, Joan Carter and her husband Andy of Brookings, David Anderson and his wife Kay of Burbank, SD; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three brothers, Lee Odom of Iowa, Dale Odom of Arkansas, Jack Odom of Texas; and a host of other relatives and friends. Bev was preceded in death by her husbands; one son Gene; one grandson Danny Anderson; her parents; and a son-in-law Tom McFarland. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Grace Free Lutheran Church in Bruce. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline and visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Memorials may be directed to Grace Free Lutheran Church of Bruce.
