She and her siblings, Mervin, Aggie, Nora, Glen, Margaret and Clifford were raised on the family farm. Her childhood days were full of friends and family. She spoke of tending the sheep, playing kittenball at country school and competitions in foot races on the 4th of July. She admits she was a little spoiled by her older brothers and sisters! She graduated from Lake Preston High School and attended one year at Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. Mom was united in marriage to Gordon Skoglund on November 18, 1950 at North Preston Church. They were married 49 years. While Dad spent two years (1951 - 1953) serving in the Korean Conflict, mom worked in Long Beach, California. She returned home to help care for her mother-in-law, Esther Skoglund. After Dad returned home, they farmed near Lake Norden. Four daughters, Nancy, Valerie, Karen and Mary, their miracle babies, where born to Dad and Mom. Her love for us girls was unconditional and felt deeply. She was always there for us. Mom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden and was actively involved in the Womens Circles, taught Sunday School and served on many church boards and committees. She was also a member of the Friendly Circle Club. Mom loved to go on her walks, feed and watch the birds, and tend to her trees and flowers. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she and dad raised us girls and influenced the grandchildren. After dads death she continued to live on the family farm with the love and support from many friends and family members, especially her brother Glen. Her first love was spending time with dad and then being there for us girls and our families.
