(Goodfellow) DeBoer, daughter of Herb and Bertha (Cotton) Goodfellow, was born May 19, 1911, at the family home at rural Bruce, South Dakota. She received her first eight years of education at District #111 in Preston Township and later graduated from Volga High School. She attended General Beadle College in Madison, South Dakota for her teaching degree and taught in various rural schools in Brookings County. Following her marriage to Earl DeBoer on June 22, 1937 in Castlewood, South Dakota, they moved to the family farm in Preston Township west of Bruce where Blanche resided until entering Brookview Manor in Brookings in July of 2003. Earl passed away on October 19, 1997, and Blanche continued to live in her home on the family farm with the loving help of her family and Veronica Linneman the past five years. She died on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Brookview Manor at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 11 days. She was a member of the Preston Christian Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was an active member for many years in various capacities. She was a 4-H leader for many years and part of the Triple T Extension Club as well as other community activities. Blanche found great joy in preparing and serving meals to her family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Sharon Reed and her husband Kenneth of Watertown, SD and Janice Saathoff and her husband Roger of Bruce, SD; eight grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; one brother Frank Goodfellow and his wife Mary Lou of Bruce; two sisters, Letha Kinney of Estelline, SD and Ellen Klinsky of Brookings; sisters-in-law, Irene Goodfellow, Ardeth DeBoer, Mavis DeBoer, Alice Knutson, Opal Perry and her husband Bruce and Doris Campbell and her husband Roger. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother Horace; and one grandson Stacy.
