Bohn Lawrence Peterson was born February 19, 1950 in Brookings, South Dakota to Merle and Bernadette (Bernie Gratz) Peterson. He grew up on a farm near Estelline, South Dakota. He attended and graduated from Estelline High School in 1968. Bohn attended SDSU for three years, and returned to the family farm. He worked several years for Bowes Construction and worked for the Estelline Community Oil from 1999 until the time of his death. He died at home on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the age of 64 years. He was united in marriage to Barbara Stahl on June 29, 1978 and to this union three children were born. Bohn married Karola (Schwartz) Bortnem on October 27, 1994. Bohn was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Estelline Volunteer Fire Department and past president of the Estelline Alumni Association. The church and his family were very important to Bohn, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Bohn loved to hunt, fish, garden and play cards. He enjoyed visiting with anyone and everyone. He was a loyal Minnesota Viking and Twins fan. He is survived by his wife Karola of Estelline; one son Daniel of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters, Amy and her two children, Amari and Amir of Colorado Springs, CO, Sarah of Fountain, CO; two step-sons, Erik Bortnem of Coweta, OK and Michael (Carrie) Bortnem and daughter Peyton of Estelline, SD; step-daughter Jessica (Matt) Thielen and son Camden of Estelline; three sisters, Bonnie Fjerestad of Brandon, SD, Barbara (Keith) Bullock of Mesa, AZ and Becky (Dennis) Freeman of Green River, WY, father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Donna Jean Schwartz of Estelline; brothers-in-law, Richard (Darla), Ronald (Debbie), Roger (Pam), Russell and Rex (Trish) Schwartz; sister-in-law Kathleen (Kenneth) Schaeffer; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Bohn was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert, one sister Elizabeth Flowers, and brother-in-law Jim Fjerestad. His Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Estelline. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Thursday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church followed by a Scripture Service at 7PM. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials directed to the American Cancer Society or the Knights of Columbus.
