Shirley 'Brenda' Goldhorn, 80, of Clear Lake, formerly of Castlewood, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society-Deuel County, in Clear Lake. A private family service will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley Rosa Gene Britt Goldhorn was born on April 25, 1940, in Dillon County, SC, the daughter of Sanford and Rosella (Tucker) Britt. She graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC, in 1958 and worked as a nurse's aide. She was united in marriage to Terry Goldhorn on September 17, 1962, in Castlewood, SD. She dedicated her time to raising their three sons, Jay T., Lee, and Bret. Along with raising their children, Brenda held various jobs throughout her life, including Esco Sign Display, Medallion Mobile Homes, Castlewood School District, and a Home Health Technician for Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership. She also obtained her Automotive Service Technician degree.
Brenda was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was an avid gardener and often canned her produce to share with others. She also enjoyed sewing, playing Bingo, lottery tickets, and working on puzzles. She was an excellent cook and often made meals for her family which reflected her southern roots. Grandma Brenda loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. She also adored her dog, Rosa, and many other pets over the years.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Terry Goldhorn, of Clear Lake; three sons, Jay T. (Stephanie) Goldhorn of Brookings, SD, Lee (Jaci) Goldhorn of Omaha, NE and Bret Goldhorn of Los Angeles, CA, and six grandchildren, Logan, Cicely, Gabel, Mitchell, Mason and Riley. She is also survived by her sister Minnie Dew, of Loris, SC, sisters-in-law Cheryl Hogstad, Sheila Thompson, Cathy Tellinghuisen, Susan (Bob) Saathoff, Dorothy Stanage, and brother-in-law Stefan (Kristi) Goldhorn, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband's parents, Jack and LaVerne; brothers, Stafford, James, Santee, and Ralph; sister, Elizabeth Jackson; brothers-in-law, William Jennings Dew, John Henry Jackson, Sr., Ronald Goldhorn, Michael Goldhorn, Eugene Ruhr, James Tellinghuisen and Dale Hogstad; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lee Britt, Freida Britt, and Sylvia Ruhr.
