Byron Arvid Koistinen was born July 6, 1932 to Arvid and Mildred (Kangas) Koistinen of Hayti, South Dakota. He attended rural school and graduated from Hayti High School in 1950. Byron served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and was united in marriage to Ruth Rivers on September 27, 1958 at Lake Norden. They lived in Watertown for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls where he was employed by the U.S. Post Office. They moved to a farm near Hayti in 1977 and in 1979 he began working at the post office in Watertown and continued until his retirement in 1988. They moved to Texas and lived in Athens and later Aledo. In 1997 he began working at the Lost Creek Golf Course and continued until the time of his death. Byron died on Sunday, December 21, 2014 in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 82 years. He was a life long member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Ruth of Aledo, TX; one son Anthony Koistinen of Aledo, TX; one daughter Kimberly McGuirk and her husband Delaney of Fort Worth, TX; one brother Wilbur Koistinen and his wife Lillian of Hayti, SD; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Byron was preceded in death by his parents. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church near Lake Norden. Visitation will be held from 6PM to 8PM Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Apostolic Cemetery, rural Lake Norden.
