Cecelia L. (Pierce) Shalley, daughter of Albert F. and Elizabeth R. (Miller) Pierce, was born May 27, 1912 in Holstein, Iowa. She received her education in Pleasant Valley School in Brookings County, South Dakota. On March 6, 1938, she was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Shalley in Watertown, South Dakota. They farmed in Brookings County until 1945 when they moved to Brookings and she was employed at Red Owl Grocery until 1946. In 1947 they returned to the farm and continued farming until retiring and moving into Estelline in 1972. Cecelia entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center on September 25, 1997 and Lawrence died on February 2, 1998. She died on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 98 years, 1 month and 21 days.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Womens Fellowship, Senior Citizens and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed homemaking, gardening and helping others where needed.
Grateful for having shared her life are several nieces and nephews including, Glenn Pierce and his wife Bonita of Bruce, SD, Dorothy Loban, Bonnie Pierce, Arlene Mohror, all of Brookings, Juanita Moe and her husband Ray of Sinai, SD, Jean Pierce of Volga, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, her parents, and four brothers, Vernon, Wendell and twins, Merle and Verle.
