Charles Ernest Koistinen was born on March 29, 1970 in Watertown, South Dakota to Clarence and Marie (Kangas) Koistinen. He passed away on December 20, 2025 in rural Lake Norden as the result of a farming accident at the age of 55. A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD. Interment will immediately follow at the Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Norden. A Visitation will be held the night prior from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Lake Norden.
Charlie attended school in Hamlin County. He worked as a Journeyman Electrician for Efraimson Electric. He was united in marriage to Michelle Maria Hogan on March 20, 1993 in Lake Norden, SD. Together they had 2 sons and 7 daughters. He enjoyed raising sheep, his farm dogs, and being with his family. His greatest joy in life was being Papa to his grandkids.
He was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 32 years, Michelle of Lake Norden, SD; his children, Dion (Stephanie) Koistinen of Lake Norden, SD, Shania (Alan) Hofwalt of Castlewood, SD, Chantel (Tristan) Weber of Lake Norden, SD, Macie (Tommie) Swafford of Lake Norden, SD, Callie (Cade) Marttinen of Lake Norden, SD, Dwight (Taylor) Koistinen of Bryant, SD, Audrey (Lane) Hendrickson of Lake Norden, SD and Avery Koistinen of Lake Norden, SD; 21 grandchildren; mother, Marie Koistinen of Lake Norden, SD; siblings, Rodney (Sue) Koistinen, Edith (Randy) Kopman, Laura (Ben) Williamson, Dorothy Babich, Darryl (Andria) Koistinen, Donna (Melvin) Marttinen, Peggy (Chris) Gieger, Darwin (Erika) Koistinen, Donald (Sharon) Koistinen, Keith (Kaarina) Koistinen; sisters-in- law, Valerie Daily, Bonnie (Robin) Moe, Melinda (Terry) Nelson, Diana Clay; brothers-in-law, Todd Jants and Darwin Hogan Jr.; many nieces and nephews and a host of dear family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ella Rose Koistinen, father Clarence Koistinen, infant sibling, father-in-law Darwin Hogan Sr., mother-in-law Rosezella Hogan and sister-in-law Debbie Jants.
