Obituary

Charles Gary Thompson was born on September 14, 1941, in Little Rock, AR, the son of Wesley and Wayva (Baustian) Thompson. He spent his early years in Arkansas before the family spent some time in Minnesota before moving to California. Charles graduated from Los Altos High School and furthered his education at University of Redlands, obtaining his Bachelor's Degree. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1968. Upon his discharge he began working in California where he met Jean Johnson. The couple was united in marriage on October 17, 1970, in Bryant, SD. The couple moved to Minnesota, and while there, the couple was blessed with three children. The family later lived in Idaho, Washington and Arizona before retiring in South Dakota.

Charles enjoyed reading, fishing, basketball, RVing and especially hiking. More than anything, he had a love and passion for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Charles passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020, at his home in Watertown, at the age of 79.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Thompson; three children, Dawn (Dwayne) Kopman, Kurt (Rebecca) Thompson and Steven (Taryn) Thompson; eight grandchildren, Wyatt (Leanna),  Colton and Bria Kopman, Whitney, Keeley, Nia, Milo and Lone Thompson, and Wayva Thompson; two brothers, Wayne (Martha) Thompson and Stuart Thompson along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended relatives.
