Obituary

Chester L. Person Clear Lake, South Dakota Funeral Service 1:30 P.M., Wednesday, May 24, 2006 First United Methodist Church Watertown, South Dakota Rev. Eric Grinager, Officiating Interment Olivet Cemetery Lake Norden, South Dakota Visitation One hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Chester L. Person, son of Halmer and Ruth (Johnson) Person, was born November 20, 1937 at Hayti, South Dakota. He attended school in Hayti and graduated from Hayti High School in 1957. After his graduation he worked for the Farmers Elevator in Lake Norden for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in March of 1961. In 1965 he married Roslyn Bentley of rural Bryant, South Dakota. They moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he worked for the Army Ammunition Plant (Federal Cartridge) and later at Onans (maker of small generators). He decided to return to the U.S. Navy in May of 1972 and was stationed on the east coast. He retired and was honorably discharged in July of 1989. He then worked several odd jobs in the Charleston, South Carolina area until they returned to his home state of South Dakota. Chester was declared totally disabled in 2000 and died on Friday, May 19, 2006 at Avera-McKennan Hospice in Sioux Falls at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Watertown and the American Legion in Hayti. He enjoyed living in the country, visiting with friends and family, watching television oldies and working puzzle books. He was also an avid collector of model cars, trucks, tractors and other memorabilia. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Roslyn of Clear Lake; one daughter, Susan Yohe and her husband Sam of Ladson, SC; three sons, Thomas Person and his wife Angela of Goose Creek, SC, Daniel Person of Canton, GA and Kristopher Person of Watertown, SD; three grandsons, James Carter, Joshua Person and Keith Person, all of South Carolina; one sister, Mabel Johanson of Sun City, AZ; one brother, James Person and his wife Marilyn of Pierre, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Chester was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harold.
