He spent his early years and received his education in rural school in Sioux County, Iowa near Hospers. The family moved to Castlwood in 1923 where he continued his education. He farmed in Hamlin County and was united in marriage to Margaret Bell Stinnett on June 10, 1958 in Watertown. He owned and operated Slims Hardware in Castlewood for 27 years until his retirement in 1989. Slim died on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 28 days. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood, a past member of the Sioux Valley Masons # 125 and the Booster Club. Slim enjoyed fishing and traveling. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Margaret of Castlewood; one daughter, Nancy Stinnett Kempner and her husband Roger of Omaha, NE; one grandchild Chris; one brother, Frank Tillma and his wife Darlene of Castlewood; one sister, Janet Petershagen and her husband Richard of Ann Arbor, MI; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Harry, George and Robert.
