Funeral Service 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 29, 2011 United Church Of Christ Estelline, South Dakota Pastor Dustin Bartlett, Officiating Visitation 4PM to 7PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline Interment Hillcrest Cemetery Estelline, South Dakota Ralph "Dale" Hawley, son of Herbert and Mabel (Pollard) Hawley, was born November 20, 1922 at Estelline, South Dakota. Dale spent his early years and received his education at Estelline. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Florence Foster on October 5, 1947 in Estelline. Following their marriage they farmed in Brookings and Deuel Counties until 1980. From 1980 until 1985 he was employed at South Dakota State University in the Poultry Research Department. Dale entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in 2007 and died there on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the age of 88 years. He was a member of the United Church Of Christ, the Montgomery-Anderson American Legion Post # 184 in Estelline and the V.F.W. Post # 750 in Watertown. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and teasing his grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Florence of Estelline; a daughter-in-law Deb Hawley Peterson and her husband Curtis of Astoria, SD; three grandsons, Dan of Estelline, Derek and his wife Carrie of Toronto, SD and Dustin and his wife Amanda of Bruce, SD; six great grandchildren; one brother Glen Hawley of Litchfield, MN; two sisters, Francis Saathoff of Estelline, Geneva Archer of Brookings; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Hawley of Spring Lake Park, MN and Darlene Hawley of Lake Norden; several foster children including Terry and Joyce Gortmaker and their families and Eldon and Kim Clark and their family; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by one son David on September 1, 1998 and three brothers, Eugene, Lyle and Dean.
