Memorial Services for Dale E. Hogstad, 69, of Castlewood, SD, will be 9:30am, Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. A memorial visitation will be from 5pm until 8pm, Tuesday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood, SD.
Dale Eugene Hogstad passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, SD, where he had been a resident for the past nine months.
Dale the son of Arnold C. and Alice M. (Nelson) Hogstad was born on November 25, 1940, at the Bartron Hospital in Watertown, SD. His early years were spent in the Henry, Wallace and Florence area where he attended country and grade school.
He was baptized on December 22, 1940 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Henry, and was confirmed on June 5, 1955, at the St. Martins Lutheran Church in Watertown.
In 1952, Dales family moved to Castlewood, SD where he graduated in 1958.
Dale married Cheryl J. Goldhorn on December 1, 1962, at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. To this marriage, a daughter Melissa was born.
He started his work career at Maxs Mobile Milling in Castlewood and was then employed at Chickasha Mobile Homes in Watertown for several years. Dale then started his 39 year work career at the Castlewood Farmers Elevator where he was known as a very dedicated and loyal employee. He was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease at the age of 54, which eventually caused his retirement in 2006.
Dale was a member of the American Lutheran Church and an honorary member of the Castlewood Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors spending many hours on his patio tending to his patio garden. He especially enjoyed the times he spent with his daughter and son-in-law at their lake home at Lake Poinsett. He always looked forward to their annual 4th of July celebration at their lake home. He enjoyed watching NFL Football, along with being an avid Nascar race fan, with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver. Through the years Dale had acquired an enormous collection of Jeff Gordon memorabilia.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl of 47 years; his daughter Melissa and her husband Clarence Cat Rhody; two sisters Cleo Stolp and friend John Hanes and Lorna and her husband Mark Heyn all of Watertown, SD; brothers-in-law Terry and his wife Shirley Goldhorn, Stef and his wife Kristi Goldhorn; sisters-in-law Sylvia Ruhr, Sheila Thompson, Cathy Tellinghuisen all of Castlewood, Susan and her husband Robert Saathoff of West Fargo, ND and Dorothy Goldhorn - Stanage and her husband Conley of Yankton, SD; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
