Darlene Faye Trenary, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend of so many, passed away on November 4, 2023 at the age of 76. She was born on August 16th, 1947 in Frost MN to Clarence and Bernice Espeland as the third of their five children. Darlene grew up near Blue Earth, MN attended East Chain and Ceylon schools and graduated from Frost High School.

She married Charles Trenary on Saturday, June 1st, 1968 in Swea City, IA. Charlie and Darlene moved to River Falls, WI and eventually to Castlewood, SD where they raised their four children. Darlene worked as a production worker at Dakota Poultry and Midcom in Watertown, SD and later at Larson Manufacturing in Brookings, SD. She also had a career as an in-home daycare provider for many years serving many families in the community of Castlewood.

Darlene enjoyed collecting various crafts, angels and whatever else she wanted. ;) Among her favorite hobbies was baking cookies of all kinds for everyone she knew. She was never afraid to try a new recipe that someone would tell her about. Everyone will miss her treats!

Darlene had an indelible positivity about her. No matter what she or her family was going through, she would always insist that someone else had it worse than she did. Darlene could always be seen wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt with some hilarious saying on it for the enjoyment of all. For about the last 10 years, she and Charlie would wear the same colored shirts almost every day - even when separated due to medical reasons (they would call each other to decide on the color!). Darlene loved being a grandma, and loved supporting her three grandsons in their sports. She'd been known to yell at the other teams - defending her "boys." She was very proud of them and all their accomplishments. In 2015 Darlene made the choice to become sober and never looked back. She attended meetings in Watertown regularly, and in doing so, welcomed another entire family into her life. She was friends with everyone, and her sobriety and story was inspiring for all who met her. Darlene was also devoted to her family and would travel almost anywhere to see others.

Darlene is survived by her husband Charlie; sons Craig Trenary (Kris) of Bloomington, MN, Chad Trenary of Watertown SD, and Clint Trenary of Bismarck ND; her grandchildren, Andy, Tommy and Jimmy Trenary; sister, Norma (Larry) Peters, and Stacy (Kassandra) Church and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bernice Espeland of Frost, MN; her daughter Cindy Trenary of Castlewood, SD; her sister Carolyn (Tex Boyd) of Wichita Falls, TX, her brother Ronnie Espeland of Frost, MN and her brother Gary Espeland of Elmore, MN.

A service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at American Lutheran Church in Castlewood, SD, with visitation on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 5-7:00 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood, South Dakota.
