Darris Ernest Rust, son of Otto and Shirley (Blumeyer) Rust, was born October 7, 1941 in Brookings, South Dakota. He was raised on the family farm near Bruce, South Dakota and attended rural school. He later attended Bruce Public School and graduated from Bruce High School in 1959. He was employed at Medary Standard Service in Brookings for a short time before starting to farm in the Bruce area. Darris was united in marriage to Janet Nelson at Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce on June 29, 1962. They continued to farm for many years. He semi-retired and they remained on the farm while Darris worked part time jobs in the area and was currently driving school bus for the Estelline School District. He died on Monday, December 3, 2007 at the Estelline Medical Clinic at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 26 days. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, camping, boating, music, rendezvous and visiting with family and friends. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Janet of Bruce; their children, Jodi Heil and her husband Greg of Sioux Falls, Jacklin Killion and her husband Brian of Rapid City, SD, Travis Rust and his wife Debra of Aurora, SD; three grandchildren, Taylor Rust and Morgan and Devyn Killion; two sisters, Sharon Steffen and her husband Jim of Volga, SD, Rita Emmett and her husband Lynn of Bruce; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Darris was preceded in death by his parents.
