Black, son of Frank and Eleanor (Hauck) Black, was born December 12, 1945 at Rugby, North Dakota. He was baptized in Towner, North Dakota. David was raised in New Rockford, North Dakota and attended St. James Academy there. After his education he worked road construction in North Dakota before joining the U.S. Air Force on October 26, 1965. After he was discharged from his service in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic on August 1, 1967, he went to work in the family trucking business. He was united in marriage to Martha Marty Trenary on February 1, 1969 in La Moure, North Dakota. While David was a man of many talents, he found great satisfaction working in the trucking industry as an owner/operator of his own trucking business for the majority of his 60 years. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Nebel (Harrenga) on June 5, 1993 in Castlewood. He died surrounded by family and friends at his home on Saturday, March 18, 2006 due to complications from cancer. He was 60 years old. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood and the American Legion Post # 250. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mary Ellen of Castlewood; two sons, Darin Black and his wife Stacey of West Fargo, ND and Brian Black and his wife Alison of Bismarck, ND; two step children, Kelly Nebel of Mesa, AZ and Valerie Chicoine and her husband Jeremy of Onida, SD; five grandchildren, Reagan, Birgen, Kennedy, Caleb and Calleigh; his mother Eleanor Parkos of Napoleon, ND; three brothers, Sebastian Butch Black and his wife Linda and Denver Black and his wife Debbie, all of Plains, MT, Peter Black of Napoleon, ND; his mother-in-law, Eleanor Harrenga of Estelline, SD; two brothers-in-law, Bob Harrenga of Estelline, SD and Jim Harrenga of Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, and his step-father Marlon MC Parkos. Interment will be at a later date at St. Johns Cemetery in New Rockford, North Dakota next to his grandfather, Sebastian E. Black.
