Delores O. (Mohan) Goens, daughter of George and Amanda (Meisel) Mohan, was born August 20, 1922 near Dempster, South Dakota. As a child she moved with her family to the Bruce, South Dakota area and graduated from Bruce High School. After her marriage to Melvin Goens on March 15, 1947 in Watertown, South Dakota, they farmed near Castlewood until moving into town in 1967. Delores baby-sat many many Castlewood area children over the years. Melvin died on October 13, 1999 and she continued to make Castlewood her home until entering the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in October of 2008. She died there on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 27 days. Delores was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood where she was active in many church related activities and groups. She loved Daniel O'Donnell music and also watching the Minnesota Twins. Delores enjoyed baking and made many animal birthday cakes for area children over the years. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Roger Goens and his wife Terri of Volga, SD, Richard Goens of Adel, IA; eight grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; three great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; one sister Vida Schneiderman of Woodstock, IL; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin; one son Donald in December of 2009; her parents; two brothers, Willard and George; and one sister Clarys. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. Burial will be in the Castlewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.
