Dena (Roeson) Andrews, daughter of Nils and Ovidie (Mikelson) Roeson, was born July 21, 1897 at Tromso, Norway. She received her education in Norway and moved to the United States, settling at Bryant, South Dakota as a young woman. She was united in marriage to Andrew Andrews in April of 1917 at Hayti, South Dakota. They farmed in Hamlin County all of their married life. Andrew died in March of 1941. Dena continued to make Lake Norden her home and died on Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Beverly Healthcare in Lake Norden at the age of 106 years, 2 months and 9 days. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, the Ladies Aid, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Sons of Norway and the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting, hardager, sewing, making rugs and quilts and flowers and music.. Grateful for having shared her life are four sons, Alfred, Elwood (Gayle), James (Marla), and Frank (Janet), all of Lake Norden; three daughters, Violet Andrews, Jane Espland, both of Lake Norden and Hope Clark (Larry) of Hayti, SD; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; one sister Anna Karlsen of Tromso, Norway; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sons, Earl, John and Roger; two daughters, Irene and Esther; one brother and two sisters.
