Dennis Edward Lund, 76, died on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, May 6, 2019, at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood, SD. Visitation will be from 4PM until 7PM, on Sunday, at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood.
Dennis was born on May 27, 1942, in Madison, MN, the son of Theodore and Alice (Shelstad) Lund. He received his education in country school in District #101 near Madison, MN and also Madison Public School. He was a graduate of Strandburg High School in 1960, in Strandburg, SD. For several years he worked for area farmers. In 1964, he entered the United States Army and received his honorable discharge in 1966. From there, he was employed at various places in Wisconsin and South Dakota. Dennis was united in marriage to Karen Aronson on September 7, 1968, in Castlewood. He attended LAVTI (Lake Area Vocational Technical Institute) and graduated in 1969. While there he began working at Minnesota Rubber Company. He retired from there in 2007 after 38½ years.
Dennis was an active member of the American Lutheran Church and served as a Board Member, where he was president, Sunday School Teacher, and Luther League Advisor. He was also a VFW Life Member, Life Member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Life Member of the American Legion Post 250 where he served as Commander, County Commander, Athletic Americanism Officer, Officer and Chaplin.
He enjoyed coaching women's fastpitch softball, watching his children and grandchildren in their various activities, golfing, gardening, playing cards and games of all kinds.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Karen of Castlewood, SD; his children, Kristy (Lynn) Borer of Castlewood, David (Stephanie) Lund of Pollock, SD, Daniel (Jenny) Lund of Watertown, SD; his grandchildren, Carson Borer, Syndey Borer, Jade Lund, Kodi Lund, Allison Lund, Levi Lund and Karina Lund; one brother LeRoy (Peggy) Lund of Madison, MN; one sister Doris Black of Castlewood, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law Gene Black
