Don was born September 9th, 1924 on the family farm near Dempster, SD to George and Josephine (Loneman) Linneman. After schooling, he worked for various farmers around Estelline before marrying the "catch of his life," Shirley Mae Lamberg. They wed on May 24th, 1948 at St Francis De Sales Catholic Church. At the beginning of their lives together they farmed near Estelline where he also did custom baling and corn shelling. In 1957 they moved to their home of sixty-four years near Dempster, where they raised their family. In the winter of 2021, they moved to the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
Don's hobbies included playing several games of solitaire daily, trapping for Christmas money in his younger years, gardening his prize tomatoes and strawberries, and spending hours in the fishing boat and ice shack. Don and Shirley were fortunate enough to take several bus trips and Co-op trips, but their biggest adventure was raising their three children. Don contributed to his community by serving on the Estelline School Board, Church Board, Dempster Township Board, and the Dempster Grain Elevator Board. His true passions were taking care of his farm and advising his grandchildren.
Don is survived by his wife Shirley of 76 1/2 years, their children David (Susan) Linneman, Diane Pecheny, and Douglas (Nancy) Linneman and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, George and Josephine, six siblings, Mardell, Kenneth, Vincent, Marilyn, Edward, and Darlene, his two sisters-in-law, Maxine and Darlene, and his son-in-law Henry Pecheny.
His family would like to thank the ENCC staff for their compassionate and loving care.
Don requests, in lieu of memorials, that you GO FISHING!
