Terry Drew, Officiating Visitation 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood, SD Donald Flournoy was born on July 26, 1929, in Chicago, IL., the son of John and Isabel (Kenney) Flournoy. He died on Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline at the age of 78. Donald received his education in the Chicago area and graduated from high school in Chicago. He entered the United States Army at and early age and received his honorable discharge in 1948. After serving in the military, he attended the University of Illinois. Donald was then employed as a firefighter with the Chicago Fire Department, and retired after 40 years of service. He was united in marriage to Wilma Landgraf on September 9, 1977 in Chicago, IL. In 1979, they moved near Castlewood, South Dakota. Donald was employed at various places in South Dakota including South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD for ten years. He loved horses, and spending time on the farm. He was a very kind, gentle and loving person. Donald is survived by his wife Wilma of Castlewood, SD; his children, Donald Flournoy, Kathleen Flournoy, Norvelle Flournoy, Rochelle Flournoy all of Las Vegas, NV, Danielle (Jerome) Bunche of Bolingbrook, IL, Monica Flournoy of Indiana, Norma Roberts-Hakizimana of St. Paul, MN, Jay (Marcia) Roberts of Homewood, IL, Patrick Roberts of Milwaukee, WI, Julie Roberts of Las Vegas, NV; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a special nephew Edward Daniels of Point Roberts, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert and one sister Ruth.
