Schumacher, son of August and Esther (Hildenbrand) Schumacher, was born September 23, 1943, at Eureka, South Dakota. He grew up on the family farm 10 miles east of Ashley, North Dakota and graduated from Ashley High School in 1961. He graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota in 1965 and then graduated from Wartburg Theological Seminary at Dubuque, Iowa in 1969. Donald was ordained into the ministry on June 15, 1969, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley, North Dakota. He was united in marriage to Mary Louise Molly Cummings on May 19, 1968, at Hope Lutheran Church in Miami, Florida. They served at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zap, North Dakota from 1969 to 1971, Zion Lutheran Church in Elgin, North Dakota from 1971 to 1987, Trinity Lutheran Church at Steele, North Dakota and Dawson Lutheran Church, Dawson, North Dakota from 1987 to 1995, and St. John Lutheran Church in Dimock, South Dakota from 1995 to 2000. They moved to Badger, South Dakota in 2000 where they served Badger Lutheran Church in Badger and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Rev. Schumacher died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 16 days. In his spare time he was a Ham radio operator and loved to do woodworking. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mary Louise Molly of Badger; their children, John August Schumacher and his wife Becky and Laura Mary Schumacher Honeycutt and her husband Dave, all of Omaha, NE; two grandchildren, Anna Mary and Nathan John Schumacher; his father, August Schumacher of Ashley, ND; one sister, Wanda Budnick and her husband Tom of Duluth, MN; one sister-in-law, Shirley Schumacher Thurn of Ashley, ND; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother Gary.
