Dorathea M. Pottratz Brookings, SD Dorathea M. Pottratz was born on April 24, 1921, in Hamlin County, South Dakota the daughter of Fred and Alvina (Ganter) Asp. She died on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 86. Dorathea was baptized in the Hidewood Lutheran Church. Doratheas father died when she was eight years old. She and her mother moved t o LaCrosse, WI at the age of 10, to be closer to her family. After she graduated from high school, she attended business school in LaCrosse. In 1941, she married Floyd Volk, and they lived in Minneapolis, MN. While living in Minneapolis, Dorathea was employed for 13 years for Industrial Credit. They later moved to Danbury, WI, where they owned and operated Staples Lake Resort. Floyd died in 1965. She was united in marriage to Bert Pottratz on July 15, 1968 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Pine City, WI. They worked for Midwestern Homes Co, in Rapid City, SD. In 1975, they moved near Estelline and Dorathea was employed at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center until her retirement in 1983. Bert died on May 26, 1985. In 1994, she moved to Brooking. She has been a resident of Brookview Manor since 2005. She was a member of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brookings and a past member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estelline. Dorathea is survived by her cousins Darryl (Norma) Ganter of Brookings, SD, Mrs. Fred (Elaine) Ganter of Sioux Falls, SD, Mrs. Arnold (Edith) Asp of Stoddard, WI.
