Obituary

Dorothy M. Sween, 83, of Estelline, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Estelline, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday at Geise Funeral Chapel, in Estelline.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.

Dorothy M. Boom was born on April 27, 1933, in Dempster, SD, the daughter of William and Mary (DeWall) Boom.  She received her education in Estelline. She was married to Martin "Mick" Sween in Hendricks, MN, on April 17, 1948. She worked as a Nurse Assistant and Surgical Technician in the Estelline Hospital for many years. She was also the Activities Coordinator for the Estelline Nursing and Care Center for six years.

Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 184 for over 30 years. She loved family, reading, crocheting and watching the Minnesota Twins.

She is survived by her son, David (Karen) Sween, of Brookings, SD; three daughters,  Lana (Ron) Saathoff, of Estelline, SD,  Jody (Randy Backus) Erschens, of Tea, SD and Lisa (Dave) Carson, of Langford, SD; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (Walter) Conn, of Sioux Falls, SD and Sally Thompson, of  Punta Gorda, FL and many relatives and friends.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mick, one son, Douglas; one daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Duane Johnson; one sister, Darlene and brother, Donald.
