Obituary

Eleanor Eileen (Jensen) Bohls was born November 13, 1920 at Castlewood, South Dakota to James George and Nellie (Riley) Jensen. She received her education in the Castlewood Public School and through a Business Correspondence Course. On June 11, 1953 she married Martin H. Bohls at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Estelline. Eileen was a clerk at the Castlewood Post Office for eight years and then worked at the United National Bank in Castlewood until retiring in 1983. She continued to live in Castlewood and later entered the Castlewood Assisted Living and lived there for several years. She died on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 94 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 60 years and a member of the Past Presidents Parley. She was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church where she was secretary of the first church council, a member of St. Ann's Altar Society and a CCD teacher for several years. Eileen was a charter member of the Castlewood Historical Society where she served as President for several years and helped compile the Hamlin County Historical Book which was published in 1979. She was a member of the Ontario and Elgin, Canada Historical Societies. She served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and helped organize the first Girl Scout Troop in Castlewood. Her interests were history, genealogy, traveling and she enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with her sister and her friends. She was interested in her family and proud of all their achievements. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Greg (Mary Ann) of Spearfish, SD, Roger (Martha) of Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Nate (Elizabeth Callahan) Bohls, Averie (Yanni) Georgas, Liza Bohls, Ceci Bohls; four step grandchildren, Mike (Sara) Katon, Kim (Jesse) Anderson, Kirt (Lisa) Katon, Lori (Kevin) Cook; two great grandchildren, Apollo and Nikos Georgas; five step great grandchildren, Adrion (Cate) Katon, Tilli, Kayla and Cynthia Katon and Cherish Anderson; one sister-in-law Delores Bohls of Castlewood; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Martin on June 12, 2008, her parents and one sister LaVerne Goldhorn. Memorials may be directed to the Castlewood Historical Society, the Lions Eye Bank or the American Legion Auxiliary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 16, 2015 at St. John's Catholic Church in Castlewood. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM on Thursday at the church with a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM.
