Elma E. Iwanicki, 101, of Volga, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Arlington Care and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday, March 9, 2018 at Geise Funeral Chapel, in Lake Norden.
Elma Esther Mattila was born on July 20, 1916 on a farm near Hayti, SD to Charles Oscar and Anna (Marttila) Mattila. The family moved to Bruce, SD in 1918. She received her education in Bruce and was a graduate of Bruce High School. In 1941, Elma made her home in Detroit MI and later Warren, MI. During WWII, she worked at Willow Run Bomber Plant, in Willow Run, MI, where B-29 Bombers were built until 1945. She then attended business school before going to work for the Accounting Department at Chrysler Corporation until her retirement in 1981. Elma moved to Volga in 2001 and lived in the area until the time of her passing.
Elma enjoyed quilting, reading and spending time with her family.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Elma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Iwanicki, four brothers, George, Arne, Einar and Uno and four sisters, Irene Egeberg, Aili Mattila, Laura Miller and Helen Mattila.
