(Tormanen) Johnson, daughter of Charles and Ina (Niiranen) Tormanen, was born April 28, 1928 at Lake Norden, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in Lake Norden and after graduating from Lake Norden High School she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls. Elvie taught rural school south of Lake Norden before her marriage to Howard Johnson on June 12, 1947 on his parents farm west of Estelline. They farmed for a few years and Elvie taught school for many years in Colton and Dell Rapids, South Dakota. They moved to Lake Norden in 1986 and she taught special education students until retiring in 1993. She and Howard spent their winters in Arizona and Elvie died on Friday, January 13, 2006 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden and enjoyed making crafts and doing handy work. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Howard of Lake Norden; two sons, Chuck Johnson and his wife Sherry of Ft. Lupton, CO and Larry Johnson and his wife Gail of Orchard, CO: two grandchildren, Brandon and Summer Jo; one great grandchild, Jagger; two brothers, Marvin Tormanen and his wife Marilyn of Lake Norden and Alvin Tormanen and his wife Rena of Walnut Creek, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Randy Lee Johnson, and three sisters, Helen, Ellen and Ethel.
