Eugene M. Begalka was born on April 22, 1952 the son of Marvin and Mae (Kiihl) Begalka. He died on Sunday, July 24, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA at the age of 53. Eugene was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estelline, SD. He received his education in the Estelline schools and was a graduate of the Estelline High School in 1970. He continued his education at the Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown and graduated in 1972 as a beautician. Eugene was united in marriage to Karen Lohse on December 2, 1979 in Spooner, WI. Karen died in December of 1989 in Eau Claire, WI. He owned and operated Guys and Dolls Hair Salon in Estelline as well as working for Regis Hair Salon in Watertown, SD. Eugene was currently attending Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown to be a lab technician. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Eugene is survived by his sister, Linda Bentz (Dale) of Pierre, SD; his mother Mae Begalka of Estelline, SD; his mother-in-law Doris Lohse of Woodbury, MN; aunts Becky Kiihl, Gertrude Begalka, Delores Begalka all of Estelline, SD, Gladys Falken of Watertown, SD; nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Marvin and his wife Karen.
