Scripture Service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Estelline. The funeral will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3PM to 5PM Tuesday at Geise Funeral Home and prior to both services at the church. Eugene Henry Halter, son of Henry and Marie (Connor) Halter, was born July 31, 1935 at Huron, South Dakota. He grew up there and received his education at St. Teresa Elementary School and graduated from Huron High School. He was employed for Ed Matthews in his younger years and then went to work for P&R Vending for many years. He was united in marriage to Linda Brand on February 14, 1963 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Redfield, South Dakota. Eugene was employed as a service technician with Sears for 14 years and in 1983 they moved from Huron to Lake Poinsett. He retired in 1996 due to disability and he and Linda moved to Estelline in 1998. Eugene died on Friday, July 15, 2005 at his residence at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the American Modelers Association. He built and flew model airplanes and enjoyed woodworking. His proudest moment was when he found out he was going to be a grandfather and made a rocking chair for the babys mother. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Linda of Estelline; one son James Halter and his wife Tracey of Knoxville, TN; one granddaughter Brooklyn Rose; one sister Jan Hummi and her husband Dave of Troy, MI; one brother Robert Halter and his wife Cecelia of Huron, SD; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Brand of Redfield, SD, Don Brand of King George, VA, Jerry Brand and his wife Virgie of Redfield, Tom Brand and his wife Sharon of Vancouver, WA, Etta Wegner of Estelline, Sharon Benning and her husband Bob of Redfield; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Bill Brand and Vincent Wegner; and one sister-in-law, Jean Brand.
