Evelyn Carol Whittemore, 78, of Estelline, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society-Deuel County, in Clear Lake. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, July 26, 2021 at Geise Funeral Home, in Estelline.

Evelyn C. Lesmeister was born on December 17, 1942, the daughter of Les and Gertrude (Mitchell) Lesmeister. Evelyn received her education in Rapid City, SD. Spending most of her childhood and adult life living in South Dakota. Evelyn was employed at various jobs in Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Evelyn's passion was when she was employed as a registered nurse with Sioux Valley Hospital from 1976 to 1984. She provided compassionate care that was respectful of each patient's values and wishes. Evelyn and her first husband Fred raised four amazing kids providing them the necessities and tools to become role model citizens. Evelyn wanted to give her kids an opportunity to understand country living was absolutely the best and purchased a small acerage just South of Estelline, SD. She worked for many years at South Dakota State University in the custodial department and was an active voice while encouraging her kids in school and sporting events. Evelyn re-married to David Whittemore on November 30, 1992, in Estelline, SD.

She enjoyed cross-stitch, sewing, painting, reading and spending time with her family and friends. After retirement, Evelyn was an active member of the Estelline Red Hats, a group of likeminded women who enrich lives through the power of fun and friendships. (Mainly to Avoid the Men and their Whining). Evelyn loved listening to country music and was truly fond of Kenny Rogers, as stated by Kenny "Growing older is not upsetting, being perceived as old is". Life is worth living, and Evelyn understood having fun was a part of life. She never passed up an opportunity to smile and be thankful!

Evelyn is survived by her four children, daughter: Carleen Davis, of Box Elder, SD, daughter: LeeAnn Spritz of Salina, KS, son: Dale Veneklasen and his wife Waltraud (Lisa), of Peyton, CO, daughter: Susan Arendsee and her Husband Mike of Montrose, CO; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Linda Lesmeister of Dallas, TX

Evelyn is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces.

She is preceded in death by her parents Les and Gertrude (Mitchell) Lesmeister, husband David Whittemore and her son-in-law.
