Fern (Aronson) Nielson, daughter of Albert and Hannah (Diebert) Aronson, was born October 8, 1928 in Hamlin County, South Dakota near Lake Poinsett. She attended Hamlin County Elementary School and Lake Norden High School. She was employed at the telephone company in Sioux Falls. Following her marriage to Leonard Red Nielson on June 27, 1947 at her parents farm near Lake Poinsett they lived in Lake Norden until moving to Madison, South Dakota. They lived in Madison for 15 years where they raised their children before returning to Lake Norden. She and Red enjoyed traveling. Red died on September 10, 1999 and Fern continued to make Lake Norden her home. She died on Saturday, August 11, 2007 as the result of an automobile accident at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 3 days. Fern was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Lake Norden and was active in the Senior Citizens. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed playing cards and always looked forward to going to Castlewood to play bingo with her friends on Saturday night. She also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are four sons, Jay Nielson and his wife Silvia and their family of Atlanta, GA, Brad Nielson of Madison, SD, Bruce Nielson and Terry Nielson and his wife Neny and their family, all of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Julie Severson and her husband Robert and their family of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Delice Gleysteen of Watertown, SD; one brother, Herbie Aronson and his wife Charmayne of Chamberlain, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Red, her parents, one brother and two sisters.
