Fern A. (Riter) Raines, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Wagner) Riter, was born July 26, 1925 at Willow Lake, South Dakota. She grew up in eastern South Dakota and was united in marriage to Reuben Raatz on January 20, 1946. Reuben died in December of 1969 and she married Clyde Raines on January 6, 1975. They lived near Raymond, South Dakota and later moved into Raymond. After Clyde's death she made her home in Watertown and entered Jenkins Living Center in February of 2014. Fern died there on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the age of 89 years. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Bob Raatz and his wife Satsuko of Watertown, Jeffery Raatz and his wife Hatsue of Brookings; three daughters, Sandra Weissenburger and her husband Larry of Sioux Falls, Sharon Jager and her husband Jeff of Lake Norden, Debra Murphy of Baltic, SD; 18 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Riter of Watertown, Delbert Riter and his wife Sylvia of Lake Norden; three sisters, Ruby Crowe of Lake Norden, Joyce Schoenbeck of Watertown, Janet Jacobson of Dennison, IA; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents and one brother Harold Riter. Fern's funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Visitation will be Friday from 5PM to 7PM at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden. Butial will be in the Danish Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Badger, SD.
