Florence (Foster) Hawley was born March 22, 1928 to Charles and Mary (Best) Foster. She attended rural grade school in Preston Township and graduated from Estelline High School in 1946. Florence lived and worked in Brookings for one year after graduation. She married Dale Hawley on October 5, 1947. They farmed around the Estelline and Bruce area until retiring in 1980. Dale and Florence were also foster parents for 19 years. Florence worked at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center for 15 1/2 years. She died on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 16 days. She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Grateful for having shared her life are three grandsons and their families, Daniel (Maria) and Kaytlyn, Danielle and David, Derek (Carrie) and Adella, Dustin (Amanda) and Avary and Dylan; a daughter-in-law Debra (Curtis) Peterson; a sister Charlotte Krueger of Cedar Falls, IA; foster sons, Terry (Joyce) Gortmaker and their family and Eldon (Kim) Clarke and their family; many nieces and nephews; and a host of many wonderful friends. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Dale; one son David; and a brother-in-law Dwight Krueger. Funeral services are set for 10:30 AM Friday, October 12, 2012 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is from 4PM to 7PM Thursday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
