Frances R. Johnson, age 85, of the Lake Norden Beverly Healthcare Center died Thursday, August 19, 2004. Her remains will be buried at the East Norden Lutheran Cemetery in a family committal service to be held at a later date. Frances R. (Bergerson) Johnson, daughter of Chris and Agnes (Ruden) Bergerson, was born December 28, 1918 at Watertown, South Dakota. She graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1937 and attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.. She was employed at the South Dakota School for the Blind in Gary, South Dakota, the Herald Enterprise in Hayti, SD and then taught commercial business at Lake Norden High School from 1944 to 1946. She was also involved with the WAAC during the War. Frances was united in marriage to James Johnson on June 28, 1946. They made their home in Lake Norden where they raised their family. James died on February 18, 1999. Frances continued to live at home until health problems prompted her to move in with her son Clare and his family in May of 2003. Frances entered the Beverly Healthcare Center on July 29, 2004 after a severe stroke and resided there until her death. Frances enjoyed working with flowers and was an avid reader. She was very much involved with all of her family and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are three sons, Donald Johnson and his wife Candace, Clare Johnson and his wife Dianne, all of Lake Norden, Keith Johnson and his wife Roxanne of Badger, SD; one daughter, Jean Lingor and her husband Dan of Mina, SD; 12 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Swanson of Lake Norden; and many other relatives and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
