Frances M. (Hawley) Saathoff, daughter of Herbert and Mabel (Pollard) Hawley, was born December 12, 1926 in Hamlin County, South Dakota. She received her education in the Estelline School and was united in marriage to James R. Saathoff on February 4, 1951 in Estelline. Frances was employed at the Estelline School as a cook for 25 years and also worked at social services cleaning houses for many years. James died on October 22, 2005 and Frances continued to make Estelline her home. She died on Monday, July 8, 2013 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 86 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed gardening. Grateful for having shared her life are one daughter, Carol Reihe and her husband Marvin of Brookings; three sons, Steve Saathoff and his wife Dawn of Sioux Falls, Donald Saathoff and his wife Julie of Estelline, Herbert Saathoff and his special friend Donna Hanna of Brookings; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one brother Glen Hawley of Litchfield, MN; one sister Geneva Archer of Brookings; two sisters-in law, Cathy Hawley of Spring Park Lake, MN, Darlene Hawley of Lake Norden, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her husband; one son Ray; her parents; one step-grandson; and four brothers, Eugene, Lyle, Dean and Dale. Memorial services will be 4:00 PM, Friday, July 12, 2013 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Estelline.
