Obituary

Franklin L. Andrews, 76, of Lake Norden, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 22, at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden with the Rev. Mark Jamison officiating. Bob Kallesen will serve as the organist. Family is requested to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Garfield Lutheran Cemetery of rural Bryant. Pallbearers will be Gary Thomas, Felix Kopman, James Andrews Jr., Jeremy Andrews, Daniel "Gus" Ruotsalainen and Jarid Espland. Franklin LeVerne Andrews was born June 23, 1937, at Estelline to Andrew and Dena (Roesen) Andrews. He grew up on a farm southwest of Lake Norden and attended school at Cleveland No. 4. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1960 to 1962. He worked many years for his brother-in-law, Bill Antonen, and John Hanson at their construction company in Lake Norden. Frank married Janet Thomas on May 25, 1974, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. They made their home in Lake Norden, where they raised two children. In 1973, he became co-owner of Antonen and Hanson Construction in Lake Norden. His many projects include the United Methodist Camp Chapel at Lake Poinsett; the fire hall, Evangelical Covenant Church, Lakeview Court apartments, and Main Street projects in Lake Norden and several other homes, churches and buildings around eastern South Dakota. He retired in 2008. He served on the Lake Norden City Council for 26 years. He enjoyed gardening, working on projects in the garage, watching sports (especially high school, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits) and spending time with his grandchildren. Frank is survived by his wife, Janet, of Lake Norden; a son, John (Michelle) of Yankton; a daughter, Patricia (Eric Johnson) of Willow Lake; two brothers, Elwood (Gayle) of Lake Norden and James (Marla) of Lake Preston; three sisters, Violet Andrews, Jane Espland and Hope Clark of Lake Norden; his mother-in-law, Vera Thomas of Lake Norden; his brother-in-law, Gary Thomas of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Joseph and Elizabeth of Yankton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Earl, Clarence (Johnny), Alfred and Roger; two sisters, Irene and Esther; and his father-in-law, Arthur "Gene" Thomas.
