Gale W. Archer, son of Clyde and Geneva (Hawley) Archer, was born December 1, 1955 in Brookings, South Dakota. He grew up near Estelline and attended school and graduated from Estelline High School in 1975. Gale began his farming career instantly after graduation due to the untimely death of his father Clyde in 1970. Gale along with his sisters, Myrna and Deb and their mother Geneva operated the farm for many years. He and his mother always took pride in their Black Angus cattle. When Gale wasn't busy with his own farm he would help neighbors, unselfishly giving his time. The highlight of Gale's day was visiting with his many friends at the local coffee shop. One of Gale's most admired qualities was that he never spoke negatively of others, and enjoyed watching and teasing kids from the families within the area, following how they did in school, sports, etc. Gale died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls at the age of 58 years. He is survived by two sisters, Debra Archer of Brooking and Myrna Schamber and her husband Vic of Spearfish; five aunts, Cathy Hawley of Spring Lake Park, MN, Darlene Hawley of Lake Preston, SD, Phyllis Archer and Marlys Kveum, both of Marshall, MN, Beverly O'Malley of Denver, CO; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and several close friends. Gale's memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Estelline American Legion Hall.
