Garret J. TeKrony, 91, of Brookings, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Monday, July 22, 2013 at Faith Reformed Church in Brookings. Visitation will be from 3PM to 5Pm Sunday at Faith Reformed Church. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Garret J. TeKrony was born on January 25, 1922 in Deuel County, South Dakota, the son of William and Jeanette (Nagelhout) TeKrony. Garret received his education in rural schools in Hamlin County, SD and in his teens worked for farmers in the area. In 1942, he began farming with his mother and brother in Deuel County. He was united in marriage to Henrietta Mulder on December 1, 1948 in Volga, South Dakota. After their marriage they farmed in Deuel County until 1958 when they moved to a farm west of Castlewood, SD. In 1981, they retired and moved into Castlewood, in 2003, they moved to Brookings, SD. He was a member of the Bemis Christian Reform Church and served as Deacon and for many years as a church Elder. He was also a past member of the Castlewood School board where he served for 14 years and the Castlewood Elevator board where he served for 18 years. Garret especially enjoyed gardening, playing pinochle and especially spending time with his family and friends. He was currently a member of Faith Reformed Church in Brookings. Garret is survived by his wife, Henrietta of Brookings, SD; two daughters, Dorothy (David) VanHaaften of Idaho Falls, ID, Arlys (Kent) VanGroningen of Ripon, CA; two sons, Darrel TeKrony of Castlewood, SD, Glen TeKrony of Estelline, SD and 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Everett TeKrony and his sister-in-law Corky TeKrony.
