Geneva Viola (Hawley) Archer, daughter of Herbert and Mabel (Pollard) Hawley, was born September 14, 1931 in Brookings, South Dakota. She spent her early years and received her education in Estelline and graduated from Estelline High School in 1950. She was employed at SDSU in the business office for two and a half years. After her marriage to Clyde W. Archer on September 12, 1954 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline, they farmed in Brookings County all of their married life. Clyde died on December 1, 1970 in Estelline. Geneva died on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the United Living Community in Brookings at the age of 82 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the American Legion Auxiliary and she enjoyed raising cattle during her years on the farm. Grateful for having shared her life are one son Gale W. Archer of Estelline; two daughters, Debra L. Archer of Brookings, Myrna V. Schamber and her husband Vic of Spearfish, SD; two sisters-in-law Cathy Hawley of Spring Lake Park, MN, Darlene Hawley of Lake Preston, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her parents, five brothers, Eugene, Dale, Dean, Glen and Lyle and one sister Frances Saathoff. Her funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Visitation will be one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Estelline.
