George Rasmussen Bruce, South Dakota Funeral Service 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 5, 2008 Grace Lutheran Church Bruce, South Dakota Pastor Wayne Hjermstad, Officiating Interment Elmwood Cemetery Bruce, South Dakota Visitation Noon to 2:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church George Rasmussen, son of Martin and Alice (Severson) Rasmussen, was born February 22, 1921, on the family farm north of Bruce, South Dakota. He grew up there and received his education in rural school district # 57. George served in the United States Army from October 3, 1942, until January 15, 1946. After his discharge he farmed with his father and brothers on the family farm until his retirement in 1989. He remained on the farm until 2004, when he moved and lived with his sister Doris. He entered the Arlington Care Center on August 2, 2006, and died there on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 3 days. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce. During their farming and retirement years, he and Martin were very organized, and were self taught mechanics, electricians and draftsmen. George also enjoyed helping Doris and her family with general tasks and duties. Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Doris Goodfellow of Bruce and her family, Dean Goodfellow, Todd Goodfellow, Vance Goodfellow, Holly Leibl and Bobbi Hobbie; his brother, Earl Rasmussen and his wife Sandy of Bentonville, AR; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Robert in World War II, Alfred in 1975, Harris in1999, Otto in 2001 and Martin Jr. in 2003; one sister, Margaret Toering in 2002; one niece, Opal Toering and one nephew, Rodney Toering.
